Royal Ascot

Having signed off an excellent 3-y-o season with success in the Jersey Stakes at this meeting 12 months ago, HAATEM should be firmly back up to speed following 2 runs over shorter this spring (not seen to best effect latest) and, unexposed at this trip, he could well be worth siding with to come out on top. Enfjaar is expected to step up on his reappearance fourth in the Brigadier Gerard and is next best ahead of Epsom scorer Ecureuil Secret. Torito and Liberty Lane complete the shortlist.

Progressive last term, winning John Smith's Cup before an excellent second in handicap at Glorious Goodwood. Runner-up at listed level on final start at Ayr and promises to come forward from his reappearance fifth in Brigadier Gerard at Sandown 3 weeks ago. Interesting with a hood refitted.

Had a highly-productive 3-y-o campaign, victories in the Craven/Jersey Stakes book ending placed efforts in English/Irish Guineas. Best not judged too harshly on each of his 2 starts so far this spring and interesting if seeing out this longer trip.

Something of a stop-start theme to his career, but no doubting his ability, proving as good as ever following 13 months off when taking Kempton listed race (10f) in April. Couldn't replicate that when fourth in Brigadier Gerard and whilst he's not discounted, his best efforts have come on synthetics

Winless since his debut as a 2-y-o but hard to knock his consistency, stepping up on his yard return/yard debut effort when fourth in Group 2 Mooresbridge Stakes at the Curragh 6 weeks ago. Booking of Ryan Moore catches the eye back in listed company and he's no ruled out.

Impressive winner of the London Gold Cup on reappearance last year and even better form when placed at listed/Group level next 3 outings (unlucky here). Not at best having been gelded/equipped with blinkers when sixth in Newbury Grp. 3 last month but certainly not ruled out back down in trip.

Progressive at 3 yrs for Edward O'Grady in Ireland and he took his form up a notch after 8 months off/gelded when impressively landing 13-runner handicap at Epsom (10f) 11 days ago. Well worth his place at this level on that evidence and feasible to think he could yet have more to offer.

Very lightly raced 5-y-o who was successful twice in 2023 and acquitted himself with plenty of credit on each of his 2 visits to this meeting, latterly when third in this race 12 months ago. Absent again since but his record fresh is a definite plus ahead of this. Cheekpieces on 1st time.

An impressive winner of the Cambridgeshire at Newmarket (9f) in September and steadily worked his way back to that sort of form this spring, making breakthrough at this level in 9-runner Goodwood contest (9.9f)25 days ago, by a neck from Meydaan. Should give another good account.

Very smart 3-y-o who was placed in the Derby/Irish Derby in 2024 for James Fanshawe. However, ended that campaign below his best and he's been a rare disappointment for new stable in 2 starts so far this season. Hood goes back on but he has it to prove even allowing for the drop in grade.

Smart 4-y-o who was fit from a stint in Dubai when making all in Group 3 Alleged Stakes at the Curragh on his penultimate start. Seen to good effect on that occasion and unable to pull off same tactics in Group 2 back there 6 weeks ago. Has a bit to find with a few on these terms, however.

Smart gelding who was successful twice in Bahrain around the turn of the year. Best effort since when plugging on for third in last month's Brigadier Gerard at Sandown (10f) 19 days ago but likelihood is he'll need to pull out a bit more if he's to take this.

C&D winner who resumed winning ways in 12f handicap here last July. Confirmed himself as good as ever aged 9 when twice making the frame at Meydan before a lesser effort in Longchamp Group 1 23 days ago. Record here stands at 2-2 which rates a positive ahead of this at least.
