Age doesn't appear to be catching up with TRUESHAN judged on his encouraging reappearance at Longchamp and the 9-y-o is taken to successfully defend his crown, having landed this race 12 months ago. Al Nayyir needs to bounce back, but perhaps the addition of cheekpieces will aid his cause and, if so, he will be a threat. Term of Endearment is also accorded respect, but Coltrane, though a smart stayer on his day, now has an air of vulnerability about him.

Progressive for Henry De Bromhead last term, winner of Group races over 1¾m at York and Goodwood before changing hands for a cool 1,300,000 gns. Clear of the rest when just touched off back on the Knavesmire last month and she should have a part to play.

    Verdict
Smart stayer (winner of this in 2022) who landed the Sagaro Stakes at Ascot last term and ended that campaign with a solid effort in a French Group 1. However, hasn't been at quite the same level in a handful of outings this season and it's likely that he'll again find one or two too good.

Better than ever when taking a heavy-ground 2m Newmarket listed race last September (subsequently disqualified) and, though yet to reproduce that level of form in 3 runs so far this year, he will be a big player if on-song.

Showed smart form at best for Sir Michael Stoute and has performed with credit on 2 of his 3 starts for new connections this year, most recently finishing mid-field in a Royal Ascot handicap (14.2f, good to firm). Should stay this far, but others make more appeal for win purposes all the same.

One of the leading stayers of recent years and followed his victory in this race 12 months ago with a series of solid efforts in top company. Clearly still retains plenty of ability judged on his reappearance fourth in a French Group 1 and a bold show is anticipated.

    Verdict
Useful stayer who held his form well after winning a Salisbury handicap in good style last spring. Wasn't seen to best effect on return at Southwell in April, but probably needed the run in any case and should pay his way again this season, albeit at a slightly lower level than this.

    Verdict
Winning hurdler/fairly useful handicap chaser who didn't fare badly all things considered on his belated Flat debut in a Goodwood maiden a fortnight ago. Capable of winning a race in this sphere on that evidence, but biting off far more than he can chew at this level.
